North Main wins a state award.
The North Main infrastructure project — new drainage, sidewalks and lighting, finished in January 2026 — won Outstanding Public Improvement at the state's Main Street awards in June. It's the kind of unglamorous work boards spend years on: pipes and concrete first, ribbon later. This one earned both.

$349,000 for the sewer system — matched by the city.
Columbia secured a $349,000 Community Development Block Grant, matched by the city, for backup generators and lift-station upgrades across the sewer system. Translation: when storms knock the power out, the pumps keep pumping. No service disruption is expected during the work.
December 2024 December 2024
The Yards, phase two: shovels in the ground.
Phase two of The Yards broke ground in December 2024 — soccer fields and tennis courts joining the six-field baseball and softball complex on R.A. Johnson Drive.
Phase one cost $8 million. As of June 2026, phase two is capped at about $3.6 million — putting the sportsplex at roughly $11.6 million in all, funded through the tourism tax.
