The Board of Aldermen meets on the first and third Tuesday of every month, at City Hall, 201 Second Street. Meetings are open to the public.
Meetings start at 4:00 p.m.. A meeting can be moved or a special meeting called — 601.736.8201 confirms any date.

A new exhibit of photographs from the B.B. Bradley Collection — Columbia street scenes, the old courthouse, parades, storefronts and everyday life. Free. Note the museum keeps reduced hours from August 20 and is closed the week of September 6 while a new exhibit is installed — check the hours before making the trip.

Why one calendar
Plenty of cities keep two calendars — a buried one for public meetings and a livelier one for events. Residents do not think that way. Somebody checking whether the Christmas lighting is on Friday is the same person who needs to know the rezoning hearing is on Tuesday. So both go here.
The board meeting dates above are worked out from the rule — first and third Tuesday — so they are right every month and nobody has to remember to update them. Everything else is added when the city sends it to us.
